View of Crystal Peak from Valley

The day we came down at the end of the summer, we asked the Forest Service to just take our stuff (via pickup truck on the very primitive dirt road serving the lookout) so we could hike down "our" mountain.   So we hiked down the mountain to the paved highway in the valley that day, enjoying the beautiful mountain on our hike down.   This is the view from the valley looking back at Crystal Peak taken on that hike.
No electricity, no propane; our fuel supply was a stack of wood which I got to split to use in our wood burning stove which both heated our lookout cab and was used to heat up water for bathing.   We did have a Coleman two burner setup that used Coleman fuel, and the storage shed made of rocks in the background was where this fuel got stored.   In addition to our two way radio communication with the Forest Service, we had a small battery operated AM/FM/Shortwave radio to listen to what stations we could receive.  We got to listen to the first moon landing on this radio.

View from the lookout looking toward the south.   Helicopter landing spot near the tower on top of Crystal Peak is just visible.   A small Bell helicopter landing once during the summer and took Mary and me on a short flight to see our summer home from the air.  Our first helicopter ride.

Anothe View of Lookout

Martin with lookout in the background.  It was about one quarter mile down the mountain to the spring where we had to go with our metal milk container to fill it with water to carry it back to the lookout for our water supply.
